Chemical Characterization and Thermal Analysis of Recovered Liquid Crystals

Chemical, structural, and thermal properties of recovered nematic Liquid Crystal (LC) mixtures were investigated by applying several analytical techniques. A large quantity (65,700) End-Of-Life (EOL) Display (LCD) screens used to extract these LC blends. The studied EOL-LCD heterogeneous in nature, particularly due their different brands, production years, dimensions. collected TV computer screens, as well tablets, presented an average diagonal size 24 inches. Chemical characterization revealed that the compounds present typical chemical structures molecules simultaneous presence aliphatic chains aromatic polar groups. POM observations samples exhibited Schlieren marble-like textures at room temperature, which are LCs. Moreover, thermo-optical analysis showed displayed a broad phase between −90 °C +70 °C.
